4 Internet Marketing Myths Exploded

Hey guys, couple of weeks ago Lisa Oliver (http://lisa-oliver.com) came to my home and interviewed me.

She spent the whole morning with me, played some piano and then grilled me about IM. She has done a superb job and watching it back today I thought it really is worth sharing. :-)

The interview went into some great questions about:

  • my favourite lead generation and list building strategy
  • why most niches won’t work and which ones do
  • the biggest mistake most newbies make (it’s not what you think)
  • what I am dedicating my time to in 2011 and why

what the video below. any comments welcome btw :-)

Internet Marketing is just a low cost medium to get a message across which can be automated.
Business is a life-time team sport and you only make money as a reward for solving people’s problems. Business needs to master marketing, sales, managing delivery of a product to satisfy customers, cost & pricing management, and compliance with legal & accounting frameworks as well as task scheduling / delegating.
It always takes time & effort to master any skill combined with the willingness to make mistakes (Did you manage to walk perfectly the first time you tried?)
The good news is that you do not need to master all the skills yourself – when you follow your gut feelings and work with people with the skills you have not developed. Even Sir Richard Branson did not know the difference between gross & net profit until he was 50

I just recently became affiliated with Herbalife International/Online Business Systems. I am an
independent distributor/supervisor who pays for the leads I’m provided by their advertising. I am
also expected to generate retail income to support the recruiting part of the business. I am really
struggling with the retail aspect of this business. The products are sensational. I talk to people
every day who have used Herbalife’s weight-loss products and have had their lives changed very
dramatically. My cholesterol levels have dropped 40 points. However, all of the coaching I’ve
received and all the strategies for marketing these products – weight-loss challenges, letters of
introduction, etc. are just not my thing. I can do them, but I don’t think they are going to drive my
products into the lives of the people who really need them at the volume I need in order to make
a profit. So, I’m searching for the ways I can independently drive traffic to my site and also be-
come as visible as possible to people who can afford to use these amazing products and who
are committed to what I call “nutritional medicine”. That’s how good Herbalife products are.
My websites (retailing and recruiting) are pretty ordinary. If I had to lose 100 pounds in order
to get well and stay well, the site wouldn’t be convincing enough for me. AND I can’t change it.
The web sites are host provided and sacrosanct with Herbalife. I want to make a success of
this, but am stumped as to how to market without going broke in the process. I really liked
the webinar you produced with Lisa Oliver. I like the fact that you recognize that integrity and
value are necessary for those of us who don’t like hype, empty promises, or Internet language
which might as well be ancient Babylonian for those of us who want to get results. Thank you.
